How to Keep Score

In the West Hartford Girls Basketball League (WHGBL), the league has paid officials responsible for keeping score of games in both the Juniors Division (5th and 6th graders) and the Seniors Division (7th and 8th graders).

The purpose of scorekeeping is primarily to have a record of the outcomes of each regular season game as these divisions keep track of standings, hold playoffs and facilitate Championship Games.

While the league keeps track of individual scoring, player, team and technical fouls, as well as time-outs, it does not track other items such as rebounds (offensive or defensive), assists, blocked shots, steals and other items not pertinent to the final score of the contest.

Coaches and parents who wish to keep track of full player stats are encouraged to do so on their own scoresheet. Click here - WHGBL SCORESHEET to download a copy of the league's scoresheet for your own reference.

Below, is a tutorial video we use with our scorekeeping staff to help them understand their responsibilities as a scorekeeper for the league. While the scorebook used in the video is slightly different from the scoresheets used by the WHGBL, the concepts are very similar.
