The West Hartford Girls Basketball League follows the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) basketball rules. However, because our league is for players that are younger than high school players, there are certain modifications that we must make to the NFHS rules to make them align better to our league’s mission and purpose. Therefore, we have created a “WHGBL Supplemental to the NFHS 2023-2024 Rules” to identify easily which NFHS rules are not followed in the WHGBL.

In addition, each division (Minors, Juniors and Seniors) requires additional rules to help players move through the process of enhancing their skill levels. Therefore, each division has an “Addendum to NFHS Rules.”

To help coaches, below are buttons that link to the official “NFHS Rules”, along with the “WHGBL Supplemental to the NFHS Rules” document. There are also link buttons for each division’s “Supplemental Rules to the NFHS rules” documents.

All coaches are required to familiarize themselves with the “NFHS rules,” the “WHGBL Supplemental to the NFHS Rules” and their specific division’s “Addendum to the NFHS Rules,” so they are able to maximize and optimize the basketball learning experience for all players in the league.
